White traditional kitchen with dog friendly pantry

Somerset

The brief:
The owners of a beautiful, detached cottage in a rural setting in Chew Stoke in Somerset had a narrow, dark and gloomy kitchen. They wanted the opposite.  So, a white kitchen to make the space brighter and welcoming and an open plan layout was a must. Another key request was for the kitchen to be in a traditional style in keeping with the character of their home. Plus, they desired a utility room that would have dog-friendly solutions for their pet Labrador.

The solution:
The couple had no hesitation in approaching Stoneham retailer Angel Interiors, having used them previously for a number of bathroom projects.Together, they agreed on Stoneham’s Knole range for its classic in-frame design and modern shaker style doors. For the kitchen they opted for ‘classic white’ to instantly make the room feel light and spacious. And for the utility room, they chose Stoneham’s Edwardian range for its elegant, framed doors in a pipe grey with walnut carcasses.

Walnut accents were incorporated into the design to break up the all-white cupboards. This can be seen with one row of exposed walnut drawers, a single raised shelf behind the cooker and a walnut chopping board on the island. The warmth of walnut can also be seen when opening the cupboards with the interiors boasting this beautiful wood.  It is further enhanced with stunning dovetail feature drawers which show off its detail.

For storage, a tall pantry cupboard was installed complete with drawers, shelves and a spice rack on the door to cater for all manner of food items. Sitting by its side is an integrated Siemens fridge providing plenty of space for chilled food. There is also a slim pull-out cupboard perfect for jars.

A kitchen island is located in the middle of the room with three stools that face the Nexus Rangemaster cooker.  This social seating spot is in addition to the dining room connected to the kitchen where more formal feasting can happen. A snug room is another space that completes the open plan living arrangement. Herringbone floor tiles have been laid throughout, allowing the three rooms to naturally flow from one to the next.

To top off the kitchen, Marazzi Capria worktops in a creamy marble effect porcelain ooze luxury with dramatic dark veining and add a modern touch to the design. Other finishes include a brass Quooker tap and a mixture of long bronze handles and smaller knobs.

For the utility, another pantry was crafted to house the owner’s cleaning supplies, as well as cupboards to conceal the washing machine and tumble dryer.  For their pet, a dedicated built-in dog bed was designed with a drawer above to store treats and the dog’s lead.  There is also a sink and a wooden panel feature wall that provides a striking focal point in the room.

By altering the layout of their home and choosing a light colour palette for the kitchen, the area has been maximised to create an impressive space. Every detail and finish was meticulously thought through to ensure a practical, elegant and welcoming room for the owners to love.
