White in-frame kitchen with narrow kitchen island
Horley
The brief:
The owners of a large, detached period property in Horley were renovating their home, including the kitchen. The property had been left in disrepair by the previous occupants which meant even the internal walls and ceilings needed attention. As part of their project schedule, the kitchen was the first area to be addressed. For this room they wanted a modern space with a classic in-frame style kitchen to complement the age of the property. A kitchen island was also a must, which they planned to use for entertaining.
The result:
Stoneham retailer RDO Kitchen Studio was given the task of designing the couple’s family kitchen. Taking on board their requirements, Stoneham’s Ightham in-frame range was chosen for the entire cabinetry, providing character that was in keeping with the age of the house. A neutral colour palette was chosen for the furniture to create a calming environment. Cornforth white was used for the main run of cabinets, whilst a sand grey was chosen for the island offering a subtle differentiation. The furniture was finished with Stoneham’s premium solid bronze handles.
Whilst the room was spacious, its width was restricted. This meant that the island they desired needed to be shaped accordingly. A narrow kitchen island was designed to suit the space to allow easy movement around it. Whilst slim in shape, the island was long enough to include a corner breakfast bar with three stools, storage and a Caple wine cooler for socialising.
Another feature in the room is a large bespoke pantry cupboard with oak interior. The unit was built with multiple shelves and spice racks fitted onto the doors to ensure items could be easily organised. Oak was also used for the carcass of the cabinets throughout the kitchen with dovetail joints providing a beautiful finish.
In contrast to the light shades in the room, a black Smeg Victoria range cooker was installed with a Westin extractor hood. The mantle above this was inscribed with the property name to add personalisation to the design.
To complete the room Calacatta Gold Quartz Worktops were chosen with veining of gold and grey tones providing a luxurious marble effect. The subtle use of gold, bronze handles and an antique brass Quooker tap was enhanced by warm lighting throughout. Recessed lighting to the wall units also helps illuminate the food prep areas and creates the perfect ambience in the kitchen.
