Reigate

The brief:
The owners of a period cottage in Reigate were looking for a new kitchen that would complement their home’s character. They wanted a timeless, classic design to suit the age of the property, but with a modern edge. Simplicity was key to reflect their minimalist lifestyle, while quality and craftsmanship were essential to ensure the kitchen would stand the test of time.

The result:
The couple appointed their local Stoneham retailer RDO Kitchen Studio to design their new kitchen. After exploring different ranges, they chose Stoneham’s Cudham collection for its classic style doors and elegant moulded detail to complement the property’s age. The main run of cabinets was finished in Cornforth White to keep the room feeling bright and clean, which provided contrast with the rich walnut handleless cabinets above.

Walnut was also used for the cabinets’ interior, with dovetail joints providing a refined, high-quality finish to the drawers. This craftsmanship extended to the quadrant ends that neatly complete the lower run of cabinets, adding a subtle yet effective design detail.

The cabinets are topped with Nilestone Arabescato Elegance worktops with dark veining on a white background. The stunning pattern provides a marble effect and a luxurious detail to the room.

To introduce a modern edge, one wall was left with exposed brickwork, adding an industrial feel to the space. This feature wall also serves as a backdrop for the couple’s artwork and open shelving, where plants, utensils, and decorative pieces are displayed. A blend of finishes including brass handles and tap and a stainless steel Rangemaster enhances the industrial aesthetic while tying the scheme together.

The room is illuminated with Sensio strip lighting, adding warmth and depth to the cabinetry, while a trio of pendant lights creates a striking feature through the centre of the ceiling.

By combining timeless cabinetry with warm wooden accents, a luxurious worktop, and industrial touches, this kitchen achieves the perfect balance between classic design and modern living. It not only complements the character of the cottage but, with its thoughtful craftsmanship and quality finishes, will be enjoyed by the couple, and their two cats for many years to come.
