Hadley Wood

The brief
The owners of a detached period property in Hadley Wood were looking for a stylish family kitchen. Their existing kitchen was very dark and the dining room felt closed-off from the kitchen. The couple therefore wanted a better connection between the two areas and to brighten up the overall space with a kitchen that complemented the age of the property.

The solution
The owners approached Stoneham retailer Dobsons in Cheshunt to create their kitchen diner. In keeping with the style of the property the couple were drawn to Stoneham’s Edwardian range due to its contemporary shaker style cupboards. They opted for a light grey shade (Cashmere) for the main cabinets and a contrasting dark green (Vert studio) was chosen to highlight feature units in the kitchen.

One of the main features is the island, positioned in the centre of the room. A Silestone Snowy Ibiza Quartz worktop provides a striking finish against the dark green cabinets. A Bora cooktop with integrated extractor sits flush on the work surface offering the latest in modern cooking. There are also two stools at one end of the island allowing the family to socialise or have a bite to eat at their leisure.

To ensure the family had plenty of storage, the sink was relocated to the opposite side of the kitchen allowing a row of tall cabinets to run along the right-hand side.  As well as providing a lot of cupboard space, two Miele ovens were also installed in the units.

To create the connection between the kitchen and dining area a bespoke bar cabinet was made for the dining space using the same furniture range and in the same dark green shade as used on the island.  The cabinet, perfect for use when entertaining includes a wine cooler, exposed oak shelving and glass shelving for glassware and other bar accessories. There is also plenty of surface space for drink preparation, and all within easy reach of the dining table.

To complete the shaker style kitchen, lighting was optimised with LED spotlights to the ceiling and a new roof lantern positioned directly over the dining room table. The neutral walls and doors onto the garden contributed to the flow of light to further brighten up the kitchen and diner.
