Shaker-style blue kitchen
Richmond upon Thames
The owners of a period property in East Sheen in Richmond upon Thames were looking for a new kitchen to complement the style of their home. It had to be classic and timeless but with a contemporary edge, complete with stylish storage and the latest appliances for a highly functional and practical space.
To get the desired look, the owners enlisted the help of kitchen designer Vahid Samyani at Stoneham retailer, Richmond Kitchens. Together, they opted for Stoneham’s Edwardian range for the cabinetry featuring elegant framed doors to create the timeless appeal of a shaker-style kitchen. For a modern twist, the furniture was painted in bespoke hues of blue including Hicks’ Blue and Bone China Blue from Little Greene, providing a nod to Pantone’s Colour of the Year.
In contrast to the warmth and depth of the blue wall and base cabinets, a centre island breakfast bar with Dekton Zenith White waterfall worktops introduces a light touch ensuring the space feels bright and airy. The white surfaces continue in the main cooking area and blend with the neutral metro tiles.
To make the most use of space, storage and appliances were cleverly positioned to create a practically perfect kitchen to suit the owners’ daily needs. A tall ‘slide and hide’ pantry unit provides a multitude of storage options including shelves and drawers, complete with LED lighting for easier visibility. For food preparation and cooking, Miele double ovens, and a Siemens five burner gas hob provide ample space and settings for any meal. A large free-standing Fisher & Paykal American style fridge freezer also allows the owners to stock up on their chilled goods.
Other features in the room include a pop-up USB socket integrated into the island, a soap dispenser and a wall unit spice rack. Throughout the kitchen, the couple chose stainless steel for all their appliances to complement the overall colour scheme. This extends to even the smaller, but significant detail with stainless steel plate cup handles and knobs.
The beautiful mix of blue hues, silver and neutral tones along with the kitchens’ modern storage and tech solutions create a classic yet contemporary, stylish room that seamlessly leads onto the owners’ dining area for a stunning living space.
