Scandi style kitchen with green island

Jersey

The brief:
A family of four were renovating their converted farmhouse in Jersey and wanted a calm, contemporary kitchen with natural materials and soft colours that would age beautifully. The space needed to feel uncluttered, with integrated appliances and plenty of concealed, practical storage. A generous kitchen island was a key requirement, while the layout also needed to flow naturally into the adjoining dining area.

The solution:
Having experienced the craftsmanship of a Stoneham kitchen first-hand before, the owners returned to Stoneham for this project, appointing Jersey-based retailer Somerville to design the space.

To achieve the clean, modern finish they wanted, Stoneham’s Pitch range was selected for its simplicity and subtle groove detailing. A combination of Cashmere (a soft beige), Vert Cardroom (a muted, warm green) and Pumice Oak creates a layered palette of painted colour and timber, resulting in a calm, Scandi-inspired environment.

At the centre of the room is the island in Vert Cardroom, finished with a Caesarstone Organic White worktop. An integrated Neff induction hob with extractor has been seamlessly incorporated into the surface, creating a dedicated cooking area for the owners. It has also been carefully positioned so the cook faces the dining area while preparing meals. The island features pull-out storage, including a dedicated spice drawer, while a corner breakfast bar provides a relaxed setting for family gatherings, perfect for a morning coffee or light meal.

Stoneham cabinetry was arranged around the island, allowing it to become the visual anchor of the room. Along two walls, lower-level cabinetry in Cashmere was installed to free up wall space for the family to display artwork. On the remaining wall, tall cabinetry in Pumice Oak introduces warmth and texture, while housing integrated appliances, including Neff ovens.

Opposite the island, in the dining area, sits a standalone pantry cupboard with bi-fold doors, designed to accommodate small appliances such as a toaster and coffee machine, alongside shelving for mugs, glasses and storage jars. Drawers below provide additional organisation, helping the family maintain a clutter-free space. Finished in Cashmere, the pantry visually connects with the main kitchen, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the space.

To complete the kitchen, soft wall lighting and vertical Sensio LED lighting within the pantry enhance the warmth and gentle palette used throughout the design. Glimpses of black, seen in the handles and stools, introduce a contemporary edge without distracting from the island and pantry features.

The result:
The balance of colour and texture, combined with cleverly designed storage and a thoughtful layout, has resulted in a beautifully crafted kitchen that flows effortlessly throughout the space. Its modern aesthetic maintains a minimalist feel while retaining a sense of warmth, creating a welcoming environment for the family to enjoy many moments together.
