Oak veneer high gloss kitchen with curved peninsula

Exeter, Devon

The brief:
Having recently moved to a large penthouse in the centre of Exeter, Mr and Mrs Stirling desired a luxury, bespoke kitchen to match the rest of their personalised home. The Stirlings were very confident in what they wanted to achieve; a sleek high gloss appearance and effortless practicality from their kitchen space, perfect for both cooking and entertaining. Inspiration was taken from their travels across the globe and the fine restaurants they have dined in. A room that exuded intercontinental elegance with the latest technology and a wine wall was a must.

The solution:
For the result they wanted the Stirlings approached local kitchen retailer Bradbury’s who recommended Stoneham’s Autograph range for the cabinetry – a perfect fit for the sleek finish they so desired. For the room’s main furniture a hybrid oak veneer was used with a high gloss acrylic finish creating a natural, satin effect. Taking centre stage in the kitchen is its peninsula with eucalyptus veneers, integrated handles and beautiful bespoke curves adding a unique flow to the space. Paired with Quartz work surfaces, the kitchen’s furniture epitomises utter sophistication.

A key talking point of the room is the Stirlings’ striking wine wall. Specially integrated into the wall, this unique installation has an in-built cooler, with each bottle aligned horizontally to match the outer display racks; ideal for the wine-collecting Stirlings and exclusive house events. A challenge in itself, some clever construction methods were required to deal with the materials used and incorporating the cooling appliance. Another special element of the kitchen is an impressively concealed utility room, hidden behind a sliding door made of the same hybrid oak.

The kitchen is embellished with the latest technology with subtle LED lighting and integrated Miele appliances for speedy food preparation, including three ovens and an induction hob. A Quooker tap was also fitted to provide immediate boiling water. After many detailed meetings and design refinements the final touches were made and the Stirlings were delighted to see their project come together.
