Neutral kitchen with a waterfall island

The brief
The owners of a large detached property in Cardiff were undergoing a complete renovation of their home. This included a new open plan kitchen which needed to include a dining area and snug for the couple and their two young children to enjoy. The owners wanted a neutral colour palette with natural materials that would allow plenty of light throughout their home, including their kitchen. But most importantly the kitchen needed to suit their busy family life.
The solution
For the kitchen renovation, the couple entrusted Stoneham retailer Avantgarde Designs based in Cardiff to capture their brief. For the furniture, Stoneham’s Knole range was chosen with its in-frame detail for a clean, yet classic aesthetic. The cabinet doors are smooth painted in Latte, a cream natural shade, which adds warmth to the room.
The neutral colour is continued on the feature island which is topped with a beautiful Silestone Calacatta Gold worktop with waterfall ends. The worktop has a marble effect with light grey veins and golden glints that capture the light. Four stools are located at the island for each family member, so they can dine and socialise together. Above the island wicker pendant lights provide a natural element to the space.
For storage the kitchen includes plenty of large drawers and an integrated bin system to free up floor space. To break up the cabinets and add extra detail, fluted glass has been used to provide a contrasting texture to the smooth painted doors, while allowing internal LED natural white lights to shine through.
The kitchen also showcases the latest appliances including a Quooker CUBE tap where the family have the choice of boiling, sparkling and chilled water. There is also an integrated ice maker, Caple Wine Cabinet, Liebherr fridge and freezer, as well as Siemens ovens, dishwasher, microwave and induction hob – providing everything the owners need for family feasts and gatherings.
To complete the kitchen, oak flooring was laid adding to the calming and soothing aesthetic throughout, while bi-fold doors open onto the garden to allow an abundance of light into the room.
