The brief:
The Lattuca family had lived in their house for eight years; however they were never content with their kitchen. It was too small, lacked in storage and the modern style wasn’t to the owner’s taste. They wanted to create an open-plan kitchen-diner that had plenty of character, as well as space to entertain their large family. Deep storage drawers and plenty of workspace was a must so the family could utilise the kitchen to the scale they wanted.
The solution:
Following recommendations from other family members, the Lattuca’s instructed Stoneham retailer Gardiner Haskins to design the perfect kitchen. This was no mean feat as the team had to design a kitchen working only from building plans. However, they took on the challenge to design a Stoneham kitchen that ticked all the boxes.
For the cabinetry the family was drawn to Stoneham’s Cudham range due to its classic style. “We loved Stoneham furniture’s traditional, shaker styling, painted finish and solid, quality feel,” said Selina Lattuca. They opted for two neutral shades for the kitchen in Sand Grey and Cashmere which helped add warmth and character, whilst making the room feel bright and spacious.
Centre to the kitchen is an island providing extra worktop space using Carrara Misterio Quartz, large cupboards and seating for the family. There is also an integrated Neff fridge, offering easy access to chilled drinks when the Lattuca’s entertain. To complement this, a bespoke bar unit was designed complete with walnut drawers, pull-out chopping boards, shelves for different glass styles and an area to store bottled spirits and prepare drinks. Next to the bar unit is a Neff wine cooler providing extra space for bottles of wine and fizz.
Furthermore, a bespoke pantry was crafted to sit at one end of an l-shaped run of wall units. The pantry features walnut drawers personalised with the family name and spice racks fitted on the doors. All of which create a stylish dining and entertaining zone that is distinct from the cooking area.
The Lattuca’s were also encouraged by Gardiner Haskins to have an integrated bin. “It’s got recycling sections for bottles and cans, so it’s super-convenient if we’re entertaining,” said Selena. They also chose a device docking drawer where the family can charge their laptops, tablet and phones.
To create the more traditional style of kitchen the family desired, classic carpentry techniques such as dovetail joins were used on the drawers. Featured plinths were also incorporated to the cabinet design adding elegant detail.
The kitchen is also equipped with modern appliances including a Quooker hot water tap, a French style Fisher Paykel fridge-freezer, Neff electric ovens with ‘hide-and-slide’ doors and a Neff induction hob.
Upon completion of their new kitchen Selena commented “The whole space flows so well, everything is on hand just where I need it, and we can now host those big family gatherings.”
