Nature inspired kitchen with garden views

Chislehurst

The brief:
The owners of a property in Chislehurst, Kent, were undertaking a full house renovation that included a new kitchen. With newly installed floor-to-ceiling windows and doors framing picturesque views of their cherished garden, the couple sought a kitchen that would connect seamlessly with the outdoors. They also wanted the space to be functional and have seating that allowed them to relax and enjoy the garden throughout the seasons.

The solution:
The couple approached Stoneham Kitchens to design and build their new kitchen. After consulting with the design team, they selected Inscribe and Fusion handleless cabinetry to achieve a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The cabinets were finished in a combination of Anthracite Oak and Duck Vert, a rich green hue inspired by the garden’s natural palette. Warm oak and walnut carcasses were used throughout to introduce natural grains and depth, subtly echoing the textures of the surrounding trees.

Texture played a key role in reinforcing the connection to nature. Ribbed cabinet doors in Duck Vert were featured above the sink and on the island, adding tactile interest. These were complemented by Quartz Nuevo Calacatta Volcano worktops, featuring earthy brown and burnt orange veining on a crisp white background. The same quartz was used for the splashback behind the sink, enhancing the textures within the space.

At the heart of the kitchen sits an island, equipped with a Bora X Pure induction hob seamlessly integrated into the worktop. An L-shaped breakfast bar with seating for four provides a welcoming area for the couple to cook, dine and relax while enjoying views of their garden.

Flanking the sink area, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry conceals bespoke storage solutions. On one side, a tower of glass-sided drawers offers enhanced visibility and easy access to many food essentials. On the other, a custom bi-fold pantry unit includes shelving, worktop space for small appliances, and engraved drawers featuring the phrase “Amor Vincit Omnia” – Love Conquers All, adding a personal and poetic touch to the design.

To complete the kitchen, a stainless steel Quooker tap was installed to match the sink and detailing on two Miele single ovens. Additional Miele appliances include a tall fridge, coffee machine and dishwasher. For lighting, discreet LED strips were placed under wall units and inside the bi-fold pantry and drawer tower to illuminate items. Over the island, fluted glass pendant lights echo the ribbed cabinet detailing, adding elegance and cohesion to the design.

The result:
This modern kitchen is a testament to thoughtful design, where natural textures, earthy and garden-inspired greens, and smart functionality come together to create a space that is both beautiful and deeply connected to the outdoors, perfectly fulfilling the owners’ vision.
