Modern green kitchen with island and bar
Petersfield
The brief
The family of a detached Arts and Crafts house in Petersfield were undergoing major renovations to their property. This included the overhaul of their kitchen, as well as the utility area. For the new kitchen the owners wanted it to accommodate their needs as enthusiastic cooks and hosts, while hiding a number of structural elements in the house that intruded into the space. Due to the utility room being accessed by one of the entrances to the home, the owners wanted the area to feel more like an entrance room by having their outwear and washing facilities hidden.
The solution
The couple approached Stoneham retailer Sylvarna to discuss their requirements and agreed on a contemporary, handleless design for both the utility and kitchen. Stoneham’s Fusion and Ambience collections with push-to-open functionality were chosen to create a seamless, contemporary finish. For the kitchen, the dark green (Vert Studio SP) colour palette provides a stylish pairing with light oak, used to highlight various features in the room, such as the exposed shelves, island and bar unit. In contrast, an off-white (Cashmere) tone was chosen for the utility area to create a bright welcoming space.
One of the major features in the kitchen is the island, providing a dedicated zone for cooking and entertaining to meet the couple’s needs. At one end is a breakfast bar with seating for the family and guests, while at the opposite end a Bora Professional Venting Hob is integrated into the luxurious white quartz worktop with grey veining – here the owners can prepare food while socialising.
Directly facing the island’s breakfast bar are two Miele Ovens surrounded by a stunning brushed copper feature, which is enhanced with bespoke lighting to stand out in the room. The design was also built to cleverly conceal the original fireplace.
To cater for the owners’ entertainment needs, and another focal point in the room, is a bespoke stand-alone bar. For the lower part, a must-have wine cooler was placed in the centre with cupboards either side. Above are two light oak storage columns for wine bottles, with glass shelving in-between, including a dedicated shelf for hanging wine glasses. Along with the worktop space, the family have everything they need for preparing their favourite tipple and more.
Additionally, the kitchen houses plenty of integrated storage, including oak pull-out trays, a double pantry and a handy charging drawer to hide smart devices when they need a power boost. There are also drawers on the island and oak drawers located under the feature ovens, ideal for pots and pans.
Finally, all white appliances and the family’s outwear are concealed behind cupboards in the utility area, keeping them out of view. The seamless, minimalist finish of the utility perfectly ties in with the kitchen for a cohesive design.
