The brief:
The owners of a large family home in Brockenhurst, in the heart of the New Forest, wanted to create a kitchen with real wow factor that also made the most of views across their much-loved garden. While the space needed to look exceptional, it also had to perform effortlessly for busy family life.
The brief therefore called for generous storage and seating for family gatherings, alongside a hardworking utility and boot room designed to support the family’s love of the outdoors.
The solution:
The homeowners appointed their local Stoneham retailer, Elliotts Living Spaces, to design a modern family kitchen tailored to their lifestyle. Stoneham’s Penshurst in-frame range was selected for the cabinetry throughout, offering a timeless design that will stand the test of time.
A two-tone colour palette of soft white (Cornforth White) and a bespoke warm blue-grey (De Nimes) was used across both the kitchen and utility room, creating a sense of continuity throughout the scheme.
A bespoke spice pantry was created to meet the homeowners’ storage requirements, featuring door-mounted spice racks alongside generous shelving and drawers to help the couple keep everything neatly organised. Integrated LED strip lighting enhances visibility and adds a subtle design detail.
Beyond the main run of cabinetry and sink area, a large L-shaped island was introduced to provide additional storage and seating. A curved booth seat was purposefully designed to face the garden, creating a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy the views. Within easy reach, a Kaelo wine cooler is seamlessly integrated into the worktop, complemented by a wine fridge, ideal for entertaining or unwinding at the end of the day.
Brushed brass stools add further seating around the island, making it a sociable hub for dining and conversation, while cooking takes place on the Miele induction hob. Not only does the island allow the family to make the most of the garden views, but it also creates a social space that encourages everyday family moments.
Detail was added to the kitchen with a triple-layer cornice in the bespoke blue-grey shade, framing and contrasting two soft white tall cabinets on either side of the sink. The family chose a Quooker Fusion boiling water tap in brass, paired with an antique brass mirrored splashback, complementing other brass accents and adding an elegant, refined finish to the space.
For the utility room, the space was designed to be highly functional, with ample storage for laundry, robust cabinetry to support a raised washing machine, and a dedicated boot area with a bench for coats, walking shoes, and dog accessories. A dog shower was also incorporated, making it easy for the owners to wash their dog and clean, muddy boots after outdoor adventures.
The result:
The completed kitchen and utility room combine style and practicality, thoughtfully designed to be both visually striking and perfectly suited to family life. The homeowners now enjoy a kitchen with views of the garden, supporting entertaining, daily routines, and effortless organisation, while the utility and boot room make outdoor activities simple and stress-free. Overall, the design has transformed the heart of the home into a welcoming, sociable hub for the whole family.
