The brief:
A couple from Bradley Stoke wanted to replace their 20-year-old kitchen with a new design that would make better use of the space in both their kitchen and adjoining utility room. Both areas needed to be light, bright and clutter-free with increased storage. The owners envisioned simple, modern cabinetry to achieve a minimalist look, yet still include some detailing. A key request was the inclusion of Neff’s Slide&Hide ovens, which was high on their wish list.

The solution:
Having been impressed by the team’s expertise and quality products, the couple chose Stoneham retailer Gardiner Haskins to transform their space. From their first visit to the showroom, they were drawn to Stoneham’s Inscribe collection, which features a handleless design with discreet groove detailing, offering the clean, modern look the couple had desired without being too plain.

A two-tone colour palette was agreed, with a soft mint green (Vert Cardroom) paired with a delicate neutral shade (Cashmere). These colours worked beautifully with the owners existing oak floor.  A light oak veneer was also used for the cabinet’s carcasses and around a set of open glass shelves, integrated into the side of a run of ceiling-high units. This elegant feature allows the owners to display decorative items, while breaking up the minimalist design.

Bespoke storage was used throughout. This included integrated recycling bins, a spice drawer for perfect organisation of herbs and spices and custom tall units designed to house items such as an ironing board and mop. In the utility room a tall larder unit was added to store a number of goods, while a slimline pull-out unit in the lower kitchen cabinets offered space for bottles and condiments.

Misterio Gold Quartz worktops elevate the design with its subtle marble effect and gold veining. The worktops were purposively kept clear to show off the detail and to keep the room uncluttered. This was achieved with a sleek Neff induction hob fitted flush with the worktop. Charging points were cleverly hidden inside cupboards to keep work surfaces free from cables, tablets and phones, and an InSinKerator waste-disposal unit replaced the need for a food waste caddy on the counter.

Seating was added via a peninsula island with two stools creating a casual dining and social space for the couple. This naturally divides the kitchen from the more formal dining area.

In keeping with the premium furniture, the couple chose high-end appliances. Their must-have Neff ovens were positioned at eye-level in a run of tall cabinets. Neff was also their brand of choice for the fridge-freezer, hob and extractor. Having previously had a Franke tap for instant hot water, the couple upgraded to a Quooker Fusion tap with Cube system, which also dispenses chilled and sparkling water.

The result:
The finished kitchen offers an elegant, contemporary design with clever storage solutions that support a clean, minimalist style the owners desired. Subtle details, such as the groove-lined cabinetry, open-shelving and seamless appliances combine to create a functional space the couple will enjoy for years to come.
