Light grey kitchen with pantry storage
Twickenham
The brief
The owner of a stunning semi-detached property in Twickenham desired a new kitchen for her family home. As a keen cook and entertainer, she wanted a beautiful open-plan space that suited her lifestyle. For the new kitchen the owner requested that the entrance to the basement, located in the same room, is hidden in the design. She also wanted a kitchen island that would allow her, and family members to enjoy views of their garden.
The solution
The homeowner entrusted Stoneham Kitchen retailer K&I Kitchens to design the room. For the cabinets throughout the kitchen, Stoneham’s Penshurst range was chosen with doors painted in French Grey. For most part of the light grey kitchen the cabinets span the full height of the walls apart from where the worktop and Bertazzoni range cooker split the space. The doors show off the beautiful craftsmanship of the in-frame design detail, while the cabinets provide plenty of storage space.
To utilise the storage space, a pantry cupboard was built using Fogged Oak Veneer with open shelving, dovetailed drawers and spice racks fitted to the upper section of the doors. This clever cupboard provides the perfect place for concealing the owner’s small appliances including her toaster, microwave and coffee maker, creating a minimalistic feel to the room. To the right of the pantry a cabinet door was used to create the hidden entrance that the owner requested to her basement, allowing it to blend in with the overall kitchen design.
To cater for the client’s love of entertaining a further pantry storage cupboard was crafted in the form of a pantry bar. Integrated into the cabinetry, this impressive bar features floating glass shelves for displaying the owner’s collection of glasses, a shelf for drink preparation, beautifully crafted wine bottle drawers, as well as wooden drawers, trays and Iroko wood chopping boards that slide into the unit.
Another key feature that provides the ideal spot for guests and dining is the kitchen island. Central to the room, the island provides plenty of space for cooking and socialising and incorporates a wine cooler for those all-important bottles of fizz. The island was also purposively placed for the owner to enjoy meals with her family while looking out onto the garden.
Caesarstone’s Calacatta Nuvo quartz worktop and splashback complete the kitchen with elegant grey veins on a creamy white base to complement the light grey tones of the cabinets. LED strip lighting was also used under the cabinets to illuminate the worktops, with pendant lighting added above the island to brighten the overall stylish and functional space.
