Grey handleless kitchen with bar and fluted wood panels

The brief:
The owners of a detached home in Merstham bought their old family home which required a full renovation. The space that they wanted to turn into an open-plan kitchen consisted of three separate rooms. The kitchen needed to be designed for entertaining and include industrial elements, as well as contain plenty of storage to conceal all their food and gadgets.
The solution:
Following the initial building work, Stoneham retailer RDO Kitchen Studio designed the space to deliver on the owner’s brief. For the cabinetry, Stoneham’s Inscribe handleless range was chosen in a thunder grey. This colour was applied to all the cabinetry in the room, as well as being used on an impressive standalone bar.
The large bar consists of a cruciform wine rack centred between two cabinets with ribbed doors, which adds texture and contrast to the smooth cabinets used elsewhere in the kitchen. Above the lower cabinets walnut oak shelving was fitted to house the owners’ favourite spirits, with one shelf crafted to hang wine glasses. There is also worktop space for serving drinks, complete with cocktail and wine accessories to meet the clients entertaining needs.
Bordering the bar area and cabinetry is a triple layer cornice with a subtle burnished copper detail, adding an industrial accent in the room. The copper detail also pairs well with the walnut used to highlight key features. To further enhance the industrial style a Caesarstone raw concrete quartz worktop was chosen to provide a complementary texture to the design.
Conveniently located next to the bar is a bespoke dining area, the perfect spot for the owners to enjoy sociable eating and drinking with family and guests. The area includes a curved bench upholstered in a soft grey pleather with padding for comfort, while walnut is used for the circular table. A stepped up worksurface was also created to help divide the cooking and dining space.
To cater for the owner’s storage requirements a dedicated spice drawer was installed to house all their herbs and spices. There is also a large cupboard with bi-fold doors to conceal a toastie maker and air fryer. The addition of a tall pantry cupboard with a drinks station for the owner’s coffee machine, ensures all gadgets are concealed, keeping the kitchen clutter-free.
In keeping with the ribbed 3D effect on the bar doors, fluted wood panels were also placed above the bar and tall units to create visual interest. These were also used for the main door to the kitchen and to act as a border around the door – allowing the door to blend in with the surroundings.
For appliances, the owners opted for Siemens ovens, a large LG Knock American Fridge, Bosch Dishwasher, Bora Recirculation Hob that sits flush on the worktop and a Quooker Flex tap in black. The kitchen is finished with Sensio integrated lighting in warm white to accentuate the warm tones, while uplights are used on the tall units to illuminate the wooden feature panelling.
