Jersey

The brief:
A couple from Jersey wanted to transform their former indoor swimming pool space into a modern kitchen designed for family life and entertaining. The new room needed to provide an abundance of storage solutions and generous worktop space for food and drink preparation. At the top of the homeowners’ wish list was a dedicated bar area and a large island where the couple’s family and friends could gather, relax and dine together.

The solution:
The homeowners entrusted Stoneham retailer Somerville to take on this unique transformation and design a kitchen suited to the new layout. Whilst the room’s unusual angles and proportions required careful planning, every detail was considered to ensure the kitchen flowed naturally in the space.

 – Stoneham furniture
The kitchen was crafted with Stoneham’s Pitch range in oak, painted in a pairing of Vert Studio (dark green) and French Grey (soft grey). Handleless cabinetry creates a clean, modern look, while elegant gold handles on tall feature units introduce warmth and a decorative finishing touch.  Black ebony veneer inserts surround the tall doors and add subtle framing, enhancing the design with depth and definition.

 – Bespoke bar area
A standout feature of the design is a bespoke bar, concealed behind pocket doors that slide away to reveal a beautiful walnut interior. Created with entertaining in mind, the bar offers dedicated storage for drinks and glassware, while pull-out trays and integrated chopping boards ensure everything needed for hosting is close to hand.

 – Statement kitchen island
The generous island forms the heart of the kitchen, providing a place for cooking, dining and socialising. At one end, a Spekva walnut waterfall worktop creates an inviting seating area, while a circular walnut serving board with cone support at the opposite end introduces a distinctive sculptural element. The rich walnut contrasts beautifully with the Silestone Calacatta Gold worktop, which offers ample preparation space and incorporates a flush-mounted Siemens studioLine hob for a sleek, uninterrupted finish.

 – Practical features
A dedicated spice drawer and cutler drawer ensure everything is neatly organised, while a gold Quooker tap provides instant boiling, hot and cold water. Sensio vertical lighting draws attention to key design features, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates the worktops to create a practical environment for cooking and food preparation.

The result:
What was once an unconventional indoor swimming pool area has been transformed into a contemporary kitchen that perfectly balances style and functionality. Designed around the homeowners’ wish list, the space combines generous storage, a bespoke bar and a spacious island to create a welcoming hub for cooking, dining and socialising that the family can enjoy for many years to come.
