Elegant family kitchen with sunroom

The brief:
The owners of a beautiful five-bedroom detached property wanted to transform some of their reception rooms into an open-plan space that would encompass a kitchen, dining area and sunroom. The design needed to be practical and functional for the family and combine traditional furniture with modern storage solutions. The owners also wanted to enhance the connection between the indoors and outdoors to have views of, and access to, their garden.

The result:
The family entrusted Stoneham retailer, Sapphire Spaces, to design their new family kitchen. Together, they agreed on the traditional craftsmanship and in-frame cabinets of Stoneham’s Penshurst range to get the style they desired. This was perfectly matched with Stoneham’s Knole collection to frame the doors. A classic white shade was chosen for the main run of cabinets and in contrast, Railings, a dark grey, was used to enhance a central island.

The island was cleverly positioned opposite the main cooking area, where a Bora X Pure Induction Hob is surrounded by a grand overmantle and framed doors on either side that conceal storage for oils and spices. Further storage was added to a pantry cupboard, with spice racks mounted inside its doors. The pantry unit is beautifully crafted with solid oak drawers and shelves to help the family maintain a well-ordered kitchen.

In one corner of the kitchen is another bespoke unit with bifold doors that slide to one side to reveal a coffee and tea station. The coffee cupboard perfectly houses the owners’ cups and saucers, tea packets and their much-loved Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser. The unit is cleverly located near the sink with a Quooker Fusion tap, which provides instant boiling water to help speed up the couple’s tea and coffee-making ritual.

Further storage includes deep pan drawers integrated into the island and a Lemans pull-out corner unit for easy access to a number of kitchen essentials.

In addition to the island seating, a peninsula with breakfast bar adds a further spot for dining and family gatherings. The peninsula also links to a sunroom, which offers the same design style as the kitchen, allowing the areas to blend seamlessly. In the sunroom, a built-in bench with integrated drawers offers practical storage for the family’s activewear, including everything from shoes to wetsuits. Previously a separate room, a wall was demolished to create the open-plan design and the connection to the outdoors, which the owners had longed for.

This elegant family kitchen with sunroom effectively achieves the traditional aesthetic the owners wanted in a space where both form and function come together to support everyday family life.
