Dark green kitchen with hidden pantry

The brief:
Having lived in their large, detached character home for a few years, the family wanted to open up their kitchen, which was restricted due to walls dividing the space. Removing these walls was therefore a must for the homeowners, so their new kitchen could accommodate their love of cooking and entertaining, while reflecting the calibre of the property.

The solution:
The family instructed Stoneham retailer, RDO Kitchen Studio, to design their new room. To complement the character of the home, Stoneham’s Aspen range was chosen for its shaker style doors and oak woodgrain finish. It was painted in a dark green shade (Studio Green) and paired with Caesarstone Attica quartz worktops, featuring warm grey veins that sweep across a white base colour. The beautiful worktop, along with antique brass handles, add a touch of luxury to the design.

One of key features in the room is a large wine bar unit with bi-fold doors that, when open, reveal shelving, displaying glass tumblers and hanging wine glasses. The worktop area provides plenty of space to store all manner of bottled spirits. Conveniently located near the bar is a tall Caple built-in wine cooler, which allows the owners to easily grab a bottle and pour when they have guests. The bar is also tucked into a corner of the room to keep it separated from the cooking areas.

On one side of the kitchen is an impressive Smeg dual-fuel range cooker with canopy extractor, which is centred between a bespoke spice larder to store essential cooking items, such as spices and oils. On the opposite side of the cooker is a hidden pantry room to store the family’s food items, accessed through a secret door.  In here, Stoneham’s Aspen furniture was painted in a white-grey tone (Cornforth white) to contrast with the dark green. Tongue and groove wall panelling was also used in the pantry to add detail and character.

Further storage was added to the design via the central kitchen island. The island includes extra worktop space for meal preparation and open shelves for the family to display cookbooks. A lowered table to one end provides seating for the family.

To complete the kitchen, the family opted for an antique brass Quooker tap, which provides instant hot water, as well as sparkling and chilled water. A stunning antique brass splashback is also used behind the cooker and in the bar unit. Lastly, there is a separate utility room, which accommodates the family’s laundry needs.
