Cream and timber kitchen with curved island
Mr and Mrs Laing had very specific requirements when it came to their kitchen redesign. Adopting a ‘His & Hers’ concept, Mrs Laing wanted the kitchen to accommodate a bespoke, practical space for where she could cook and prepare food with a walk-in pantry, as well as a separate bar area where Mr Laing could mix drinks, make breakfast or simply relax. The couple immediately fell in love with Kitchens International’s Stoneham showroom display and enlisted their team of skilled designers to reimagine the heart of their home.
Exotic wood veneers and warm natural materials were selected for the Laings’ cabinetry to offer a homely and comfortable look, including Stoneham’s Ambience collection in Walnut and American Walnut. For a sleek contrast, the island’s furniture, amongst other areas, flaunt Stoneham’s Mode collection in a cool Ivory shade. Tambour rollers embellish some of the cabinets, allowing for clever, subtle storage, whereas exposed shelving is used on the walls to showcase the couple’s favourite cookbooks and ornaments.
In order to segregate the design but maintain a natural flow in the room, a curved, organic shaped Stoneham island was incorporated into the kitchen, acting as a segregated hub where the couple could enjoy their individual activities. The food preparation area on the island, for example, is right next to Mrs Laing’s larder, and a water and ice dispenser is situated on Mr Laing’s area, where he can happily sit in his own space.
The island is mirrored by a matching ceiling bulkhead, which features illuminating spotlights, a hidden Siemens extractor fan and a set of stunning crystal pendant lights, which hang over the couple’s glass dining table. For speedy and efficient food preparation, the island boasts a Siemens induction hob plus an isolated sink area with a sleek, Silestone perimeter. Other appliances include two state-of-the-art Siemens ovens, plus a concealed wine cooler located underneath Mr Laing’s bar.
The new room also takes full advantage of the views and natural light in the Laings’ wonderful property in Ayrshire, Scotland, with the TV and dining area located near the full-length rear glass doors.
