The brief:
The owners of a beautiful cottage in Reigate wanted a contemporary kitchen for their spacious modern extension. They were particularly fond of dark colours and wanted a dramatic look, but also for their new kitchen to have a homely feel. It was also important that the space included the latest appliances and was functional to cater for the homeowners frequent entertaining needs.
The solution:
The couple approached Stoneham retailer RDO Kitchen Studio for their kitchen renovation project. Together they agreed on Stoneham’s Inscribe range in black oak to get the moody aesthetic the couple desired. The grain of the oak provides a subtle texture and softness to the space.
The range is utilised throughout the kitchen in three distinct areas: the main kitchen, the media wall and a bar. The main part of the room contains a large kitchen island with a Caesarstone worktop in Black Tempal and an oak laminate L-shaped breakfast bar, providing a relaxed spot for dining and socialising. Caesarstone’s industrial style Cloudburst Concrete worktops are used to finish the main cabinets with LED lighting underneath to illuminate the black units. This also highlights the obvious contrast between the worktops and cupboards.
Set slightly apart from the main kitchen is the media wall with a TV mounted to an oak laminate back panel. This sits between tall slim storage cupboards and above a row of cabinets. The owners chose a mustard velvet sofa which sits opposite the unit and provides a pop of colour and cosiness to the room.
To the side of the media area is the bespoke bar unit which includes a Caple Wine Cooler and Franke steel sink and tap. It also features reeded glass units with integral lighting which highlights the couple’s glassware. The fluted glass provides a different texture to the room creating an elegant touch. Oak shelving has also been used between the glass units to display a variety of spirit bottles, while a stunning black glass splashback provides a finishing touch and reflects the greenery from outdoors.
To complete this contemporary black kitchen, premium appliances were integrated seamlessly within the design. This includes, among others, Siemens double ovens, a Bora vented induction hob and a Quooker Flex hot water tap, all contributing exceptional style and performance.
