Classic shaker kitchen with purple island

The brief
The owners of a Victorian house in Hackney, London required a functional kitchen to suit the narrow shape of their period property. They wanted the design to create a statement, reflecting their bright and colourful personalities, as well as having the latest modern appliances – all of which would complement the age of the home.

The solution
The couple approached Stoneham retailer K&I Kitchens and enlisted the help and guidance of kitchen designer Kalin Mihaylov to design their perfect kitchen. Together they chose Stoneham’s Edwardian range from the Avant Garde collection for the furniture in the room. The elegant framed shaker doors in classic white, matt finish provide a traditional feel that works perfectly with the age of the house. To top off the cabinets, Caesarstone Snow Quartz worktops blend beautifully with the white doors.

In complete contrast to the neutral tones of the main cabinets, a kitchen island takes centre space in the room in a bespoke Purple Pout shade for a vivid pop of colour. This bold statement instantly brightens the kitchen and provides a focal point for the owners and guests when they enter the room. A bespoke curved panel cabinet was also incorporated into the island design to give it a unique shape, while ensuring the island flowed with the shape of the room – this provides enough space for the owners to move around freely. The addition of a breakfast bar for two at one end of the island gives the couple an area to dine and socialise.

Further stand-out elements in the design include a rippled glass effect on the glass wall units and bespoke cabinets including a tailor-made pantry unit, providing ample storage space for the couple’s goods to be well organised.

For appliances, the latest technology has been used including a Siemens steam combination oven, Siemens combination microwave oven, an integrated Liebherr BioFresh French door fridge freezer and a Bosch gas hob and integrated dishwasher. The ultramodern appliances work perfectly with the traditional features of the kitchen ensuring the overall design blends beautifully with the era of the property.
