Jersey

The brief
The owners of a Georgian townhouse in Jersey were undergoing a complete renovation of the property, having relocated from London. The couple had two young children and wanted to ensure their new home suited their family needs. The kitchen was one room that was crucial in creating a large social family space they desired. They also wanted the style of the kitchen to reflect Neoclassicism with grand features that would highlight the period of the property.

The solution
The couple appointed Stoneham retailer Somerville to design a kitchen that perfectly matched their criteria. For the furniture, Stoneham’s Cudham’s range was chosen in oak and painted in Pitch Black to create a bold and luxurious finish. Exquisite satin brass handles were added to the black cabinets to provide contrast and add grandeur to the design.

For storage, extra wide 1200mm drawers were crafted for the hob area with ornate columns on either side to add decorative detail to the room. Above the hob a bespoke canopy was built in keeping with the traditional style and to conceal the extractor hood. The canopy also mimics the shape of the worktop below which extends out from the rest of the kitchen to define the area.

Another key storage feature in the room is a large stand-alone spice pantry. With walnut drawers and shelves, and spice racks built into the main doors it allows the couple to organise various food items. To one side of the pantry is a narrow walnut bookshelf encased in the black furniture where the family can display their cookbooks.

To cater for social gatherings an expansive wine storage unit was made to house a Siemens full-height temperature-controlled wine cooler, providing plenty of space to keep bottles chilled. On either side is a Siemens larder fridge and a frost-free freezer.

To keep the room light and airy and not overpowered by the black cupboards, Caesarstone Empira White Quartz worktops with full-height splashbacks were chosen. The spotlights in the room and Sensio LED lighting brighten the space and shine onto the furniture to enrich the overall grandeur of this impressive kitchen design.
