Bespoke contemporary kitchen with tall kitchen cabinets

The brief:
A couple from Chislehurst, Kent had a dated kitchen and a separate utility room, which they wanted to combine into one large, open-plan space. It was important that the new layout retained the key features and functionality of the existing utility room. The couple were particularly drawn to a handleless Stoneham kitchen and oven picture-frame detail featured in the brand’s brochure, and they wanted a similar contemporary design for their new kitchen.
The solution:
The couple visited Stoneham Kitchens to discuss their design requirements and preferred features. They selected Stoneham’s Ligna handleless range to achieve a minimalist, modern aesthetic. For the tall cabinetry, an indigo blue was chosen, while a contrasting cashmere colour was used for the lower units in the sink area and on the kitchen island. Stoneham’s Ambience range in light oak was chosen to add texture and visual interest, which was used for drawer storage beneath a row of Siemens ovens.
To achieve the functionality of the former utility room, a 1200 mm-wide broom cupboard was incorporated, complete with an internal socket for charging the owners’ Dyson. This floor-to-ceiling cabinet blended seamlessly with the additional tall storage units within the space. Among these, a bespoke spice pantry was crafted with a light oak interior, featuring floating shelves, spice racks integrated into the doors, and drawers engraved with “bread, pasta and treats” to help organise specific items. The pantry also included a white ceramic sink, offering the same practical functionality as the original utility area.
Another storage feature within the room is a freestanding bar pantry with pocket doors that slide neatly out of sight. The unit incorporates wine bottle drawers, glass shelving to display a range of glassware, pull-out trays, integrated chopping boards, and dedicated worktop space for drinks preparation.
For chilled wine, a Caple wine cooler was integrated into the kitchen island, purposefully positioned opposite the bar pantry. The island also features storage drawers, a Siemens downdraft induction hob seamlessly integrated into the worktop, a Siemens oven, and seating for four, creating a versatile hub for cooking, dining, and entertaining.
While the kitchen offers an abundance of stylish and functional storage solutions, the standout feature is an impressive light oak appliance frame built around two Siemens ovens. Integrated LED lighting highlights the ovens and their surround, creating a striking focal point within the space. The light oak detailing continues around the upper blue cabinetry, forming a panelled frame that ties the design together.
To complete the kitchen, a white Quartz worktop was used on both the island and the sink area. Here, a chrome Quooker Flex tap provides boiling, hot, and cold water, with a unique pull-out hose for easy cleaning and rinsing.
The kitchen is exceptionally well lit. LED strips are incorporated inside the bar and spice pantry to showcase their design and enhance visibility, while additional lighting around the oven frame and beneath the island and sink worktops highlights the contemporary aesthetic.
The result:
The transformation successfully combined the former kitchen and utility room into a spacious, open-plan layout that retained all the practical features of the original utility. Thoughtful bespoke storage is not only stylish but keeps everything organised, while the handleless cabinetry and sleek appliances deliver the contemporary look the couple desired.
