Most notably, they provide an area to socialise, cook and dine, as well as helping maximise storage space. As islands tend to take centre stage in a kitchen, it is important that a kitchen island isn’t just practical but also looks stylish. Sweeping curves
To create a softer aesthetic in your kitchen add curves to your island. This could either be at both ends of your island or just one where you can incorporate a breakfast bar. Curves help to enhance the flow in your room and are a great option if you have young children so you can avoid any nasty bumps.

The hidden sink
If you want to include a sink on your island but want it hidden from view, then you can cover it up. By adding a sliding platform (as shown in the images), you can open up your sink when in use and conceal it afterwards. The platform can be left empty, used for items to create a delightful display zone or even used as a chopping board.

Integrated single wine cooler
Wine coolers are a popular choice for kitchen islands; however a single wine cooler is the perfect addition if you plan on having a breakfast bar or other dining area like a booth. Luxe waterfall worktop

Low level seating
Breakfast bars are often at the same height as your island or slightly raised, however if you prefer low level seating then you can drop the height of your breakfast bar and have it recessed into your island. Alternatively, a booth integrated into the end of your island also provides a lower seating area making it more accessible for all the family.

Pop-up tech
For a seamless finish to your island, opt for retractable tech integrated into the worktop. These can include pop-up plug and USB sockets and induction hobs with downdraft extraction. If you love to entertain while cooking and dining, you could even add a feature unit at one end of the island to incorporate a pop-up TV. All of which are out of sight when not in use.
