The kitchen is the heart of your home so you will want it to feel warm and welcoming. To avoid a stark, clinical feel there are some simple solutions to help create that homely space you’ll feel comfortable in at any time of year. Here are our design tips on how to make your kitchen cosy.

Tip 1 – Expose wood
Natural materials such as wood are perfect for creating warmth in a room. Exposed timber shelves are an easy way to incorporate this at the same time as allowing you to display items to add personality. You can also add wooden accents such as oak pull-out trays and chopping boards that slide in-between your cabinets to break up a design, as well as custom built wooden wine racks.

Tip 2 – Install mood lighting
Install lighting that you can control to create the right mood. LED lights concealed under your worktops or cabinets will help create a warm ambience at the touch of a button, while allowing you to illuminate features in your kitchen. You may also want to think about dimmable pendants to hang over your island giving you full control of the light in the room.

Tip 3 – Add soft furnishings
Soft furnishings are an ideal way to create cosiness in any room, including the kitchen. There are a number of ways you can do this such as adding a large rug under your dining table or placing cushions on dining chairs, stools or sofas. You could also consider adding bespoke booth seating at one end of an island or in a corner of the room. Velvet cushioned seating and back will add a touch of softness to your kitchen design. A booth will also provide a more comfortable area to relax and socialise.

Tip 4 – Display some personal touches
To make your kitchen cosy it is important to incorporate your personality into the décor. A great way to do this is by hanging art on your walls. Not only does this show your personality but it is an easy way to introduce colours to warm up your kitchen. Open shelves also provide the perfect opportunity to showcase items such as books, plants and other ornamental objects. You can also display crockery, mixing and matching different colours to create that homely feel.

Tip 5 – Add colourful cabinetry
When designing your kitchen there are lots of warming colours you can choose from such as the new neutrals (greige, beige, cream etc), oranges, berry tones and Pantone’s colour of the year 2024 ‘Peach Fuzz’. Blend two or more warming shades or balance a cooler tone with a warm colour – the choices are endless.
