We are delighted to introduce our newly appointed Stoneham retailer, Interior Design Concepts (IDC). Based in Putney, London, IDC will be offering Stoneham to its customers, showcasing the styles available and finer details on display in its showroom. We interviewed IDC’s Managing Director, Shoaib Alam to find out more about the retailer and why they chose Stoneham Kitchens.

Tell us about IDC?
IDC are known for modern and functional kitchen design built to withstand a lifetime. The studio showcases the latest designs which combine wood, stone and texture in a sleek contemporary collection. Our expert designers employ modern technology to show the beautiful materials in a new light, whilst creating kitchens that are functional and provide space to cook, live and entertain in. We realise each kitchen is completely bespoke and we take a very creative approach when responding to our client’s lifestyle, which means tailored cabinetry to fit the most stubborn spaces, clever mechanism and if required, bespoke storage solutions for specific items. With an unlimited choice of paint colours, counters, appliances, sinks, taps, and handles we can further personalise each kitchen design which is very important to us as it allows our designers to have total creative freedom.

Why Stoneham?
Stoneham’s traditional kitchens are a beautiful and functional option for those who appreciate classic design and craftsmanship, but also want the convenience and functionality of modern kitchen technology, which stay true to our values.

What Stoneham ranges have you got in your showroom, and why did you choose those specifically?
We have created displays that have been grouped in design themes, allowing clients to choose a preferred look. These include Stoneham’s Penshurst range in oak painted Paean Night, a distinguished dark purple with a hint of black, which has been used for the kitchen island and Stoneham’s Cudham range for the outer display in a delicate Peignoir Pink. The Cudham and Penshurst displays have elegant and period characteristics of the shaker style kitchen which provides a contrast to the more industrial style display we have on show in Stoneham’s Pitch range, smooth painted in Bancha, an olive green tone. We have also used Stoneham’s classic Aspen range in solid walnut for a bespoke bar which truly shows off the high-quality craftsmanship. Furthermore, we have incorporated the latest design features such as fluted panels and glass and an integrated drawer safe.

What did you want to achieve with the displays?
We wanted to develop a collection of classic, timeless furniture, displaying traditional joinery techniques, unique personalisation and creative configurations. Over the years, we have built up a wealth of expertise and experience, developing a reputation for contemporary, understated aesthetic.  We knew we were missing an emphasis on offering more traditional methods such as mortise and tenon joints for cabinets and doors, dovetail detail on drawers and engraved detailing.  These all add a sense of elegance, refinement and personalisation to a space and we wanted to give customers more choice when it came to these details.

What has been the reaction so far by customers to Stoneham?
We always like to surprise and delight anyone that walks in. I feel like we have achieved this with Stoneham. We are lucky to have a big enough showroom to display different designs, which allows customers to fully immerse themselves and be inspired.

What are you finding is popular in kitchen design at the moment?
Shaker style kitchens that can be adapted to create a more modern look as well as calming and earthy colours such as terracotta and deep greens. Kitchen Islands are always a must as they create a more sociable environment and provide a centralised cooking zone.

Do you have any exciting plans for this year we should know about?
We are always looking to innovate. We would love to provide customers the opportunity to experience design through a 360º 4D VR headset – wouldn’t that be cool? As well as that, we are always updating our appliances as we feel it is important to display what’s new. In fact, we are just about to receive the iconic Sub Zero range.
