Open plan living is very common in new build homes as well as older homes undergoing renovation. In both cases it is not unusual to see the kitchen and dining area as one open space, which can also include the living room. When it comes to design ideas for open plan living, we are increasingly being asked for media walls which provide a more visually stunning focal point as opposed to just a TV mounted on a wall.

With a media wall you can expect TV units on panelling to hide cables, plenty of storage options including cabinets built around the TV and feature shelving, as well as mood lighting. If you are looking to create a zoned area for entertainment that is both practical and stylish then a media wall is the perfect solution. Media wall with storage solutions
This expansive media wall is part of an open plan living area which includes the kitchen, dining and living space. The TV is centre stage of the unit surrounded by plenty of storage. Either side of the TV are beautiful, mirrored cupboards with lower cabinets running along the full width, ideal for hiding media boxes. Above the TV is a single shelf with lighting to highlight items and blend with the lighting in the kitchen.

Media wall in kitchen/diner
Placed directly opposite the kitchen and dining area, this media wall allows the owners to be entertained while cooking and dining. The minimalist, contemporary design includes handleless low level media cupboards with LED strip lighting to add warmth to the bright white shade. The worktop also provides extra space for displaying items.

Media wall for at-home working
This media wall is located in the kitchen next to the peninsula island. The clever use of the cloudy oak panelling from our Latitude collection helps conceal unsightly TV cables, while the wood also matches the kitchen cabinets to create a uniform space. Below the panelling are recessed shelves ideal for displaying media units or office essentials. With a table positioned in front, the owners are able to utilise the large screen whilst working from home.

Media wall in traditional home
The owners of a large period property wanted a cosy space for entertaining within an open-plan kitchen/diner. A media wall was installed in one corner of the large room with the TV recessed into the wall. Either side are glass shelves (also recessed) with walnut surrounds to match the walnut accents used in the kitchen.  In keeping with the traditional style of the house, Stoneham Scotney range was used for the low-level media cabinets in a cream shade as used throughout the kitchen to provide a coherent space.  To finish the look, leather sofas add a softness to the area for a cosy corner to sit back and relax in.

Media wall in relaxing living space
This media wall is part of an open plan living area encompassing the kitchen, dining and living room which required the perfect transitioning from cooking, eating and relaxing. To create a relaxing area, velvet sofas and carpet add a softness to the space which is contrasted with anthracite oak low level media units. The TV is recessed into the wall for a modern, sleek finish which stands out from the high-level ceiling.

Walnut media wall
This media wall is completely surrounded in walnut wood adding a natural element to the kitchen/diner. The wood provides a stunning border around the TV and radiator with the TV at the perfect height for the kitchen island, ideal for entertainment when cooking and dining.
