The kitchen: a room with a view

With Spring sprung and Summer fast approaching, what better way to enjoy the lovely weather than with the perfect view. The kitchen is the ideal room to take in the sunshine and the beautiful blooms in your garden, while you cook or simply sit back and relax. To make the most of the landscape and connect the kitchen to the outdoors, we’ve picked out a selection of projects that do just that to inspire your kitchen design.

Let there be light
This white kitchen lets in all the light with the use of sliding glazed doors that start mid-way across one wall and continue across the front facing wall to provide views from different angles. A skylight has also been installed allowing the sun to beam through onto the curved featured island and make the kitchen feel bright and spacious.

Step into nature
Maximise your space by opening up an entire section so that you can literally step straight into nature. This kitchen project has full width bi-fold doors allowing the garden to feel like an extension of the room. This option is perfect for enjoying the outdoors while cooking and dining, as well as providing a great view if you have children and want to keep watch while they play.

Lengthen your windows
If you don’t want to compromise on wall space or have limited room then extend the height of your windows. This modern, country kitchen design connects with the outdoor terrace through long sash windows. Its built-in seat allows the owners to take a pew (with a hot brew) whilst they look out onto the garden.

Double aspect views
The owners of this stunning blue kitchen wanted a space that looked out on their landscaped garden (complete with a man-made trout pond). This was made possible with bi-fold glass doors spanning two sides of the room. Not only does this provide ample views but also lets the outdoors reflect onto the beautiful marble grey flooring.

Divide and conquer
This contemporary, Scandi-style kitchen breaks the norm with its mix of windows and doors broken up by white walls. The sink has been perfectly placed by lower windows for side garden views, while the island is positioned centre stage of the room and the glass doors that open to the main lawn area.

Go all out
Embrace the outdoors by opening up your kitchen design to maximise views as well as bring greenery into the room. In this open plan kitchen diner, the owners have chosen bi-fold doors across the full length of one wall to lead onto the garden. Sky lights have been installed to capture the light from above, and in the seating area, a bold printed wallpaper is used to add a touch of nature to the room. This is further enhanced with plenty of potted plants to complement the garden and bring the outdoors inside. View the full project here.
