Retailer spotlight: RDO
This month we put the spotlight on Stoneham retailer RDO based in Reigate, Surrey. Established for over 60 years, RDO first ventured into the kitchen industry solely focusing on becoming a quality domestic appliance retailer. Having achieved this, and over 40 years later, the booming business decided to make the brave move of entering the kitchen design market (cue Stoneham) and launch RDO Kitchen Studio.
We interviewed John Aylott, Kitchen Studio Manager at RDO to find out more about them and why they teamed up with Stoneham.
How long has RDO been established?
What makes RDO different?
We are a destination store with over 450 appliances which are all on show. Our customers love the fact that we offer both the very best in quality kitchens matched by the very best appliances. As a family business, with 2nd generation and 3rd generation working in the company, we know the business and the industry inside-out which enables us to give our customers exactly what they want.
How long have you been a Stoneham retailer for?
Since October 2014 when we launched our Kitchen Studio.
I had always admired Stoneham Kitchens and what they offered – I have been lucky enough to have had two Stoneham Kitchens in the past. I felt there was a lot of synergy between the ethos of Stoneham and RDO, with both of us having built a long-term reputation as well as taking a long-term view. Stoneham is a designer’s dream to work with due to the sheer amount of product available and flexibility to create one-off bespoke items. That is why we jumped at the chance to offer Stoneham exclusively.
What Stoneham ranges do you have on display in your showroom?
Gosh, we have so many – over 11 displays in fact. Our most recent addition was a new Stoneham Latitude kitchen in stained black oak to promote the handleless collection. We are very proud of our showroom and use the working kitchens regularly for events.
What do customers love about Stoneham?
The exceptional quality and the magnitude of options available to us to personalise a kitchen and occasionally go completely off-piste to create that one-off kitchen tailored to our client’s desires.
What’s been your most memorable kitchen project.
Tough question as we have worked on some fantastic projects, however this one was particularly memorable. Having said that we have one in the pipeline that’s very special.
What’s your favourite kitchen innovation?
The Quooker CUBE system which provides filtered chilled and sparkling water alongside boiling, cold and hot water – all from one tap. It’s a great space saving solution, as well as being good for the environment.
What is proving popular in kitchen design right now?
Boiling hot water taps seem to be becoming the norm and painted kitchens in all kinds of colours, but especially dark green.
Do you have anything exciting planned for this year?
